Aomori

Aomori is the northernmost prefecture on Japan’s main island of Honshu. “Aomori” means “green forest” in English. The name comes from green forests that line the shores. These forests guided ships to Hokkaido and back a long time ago, during the Edo period. Aomori is known for its many onsens and beautiful hiking trails, as well as exceptional seasonal views. This prefecture is also Japan’s largest producer of apples! Aomori apples are some of the best and visitors can buy them just about anywhere. Most restaurants here serve apple pie and apple based dishes. Apple curry is a common and delicious dish in Aomori!

Oirase Gorge

Oirase Gorge is one of the most beautiful river valleys in the country. People from all over Japan (and the world) come to see this stunning place. I went during fall and couldn’t believe the colors and natural landscapes. Despite the massive crowds, I’m happy I was able to see so much of this gorge.

Hirosaki City

Hirosaki is definitely my number one favorite place to see cherry blossoms in the Tohoku Region of Japan. Hirosaki Park has over 2,600 cherry blossom trees and breathtaking views around every corner. Along with the blossoms, Hirosaki is where I satisfy my craving for apple pie and apple treats. It’s such an exciting city that has so much to offer!

Lake Towada

Lake Towada is the largest caldera lake on Japan’s main island. There are fun activities to do around the lake, cafes, and beautiful lakeside hotels. My trip here was actually quite relaxing. I really enjoyed walking around the lake and staying in a hotel that’s recognized as one of Japan’s cultural properties.
